Department of Pediatrics

Pediatric is a medical specialty dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders in pediatric population ( Newborn – 12 years of age).

The Department of Pediatric at KJSH brings to you some of the most experienced, highly knowledgeable and well trained pediatricians who consistently provide excellent pediatric care at affordable costs. Here you will find a multi specialty group of pediatricians in an integrated set up to provide quality care for the pediatric patients. The department runs many pediatric speciality clinics like Neurodevelopmental clinic, Hematology clinic, Asthma clinic, Endocrine clinic, Well baby clinic, High Risk clinic, Nutrition and Gastroenterology clinic,and Immunization clinic.The mission of the center is to foster cutting – edge research that improves the lives of children.The department of pediatrics is equipped with state of art NICU and PICU facilities providing efficient care to critically ill children.

“In the year 2022,The Thalassemia Day Center was started in association with Sankalp India Foundation, providing blood transfusion facility to thalassemia patients completely free of cost. Many thalassemia patients between the age group of 4 months to 18 years have already been adopted and are being benefited by the facilities provided by the hospital.
Every Thursday of Every month, Our Pediatricians visit the Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC) which is located in the urban slum of Vidyavihar 6.5 kilometers from K.J.Somaiya Medical College. It aims to improve health by providing services, promoting healthy practices and health seeking behaviors in the poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged section of the community. The UHTC provides holistic health services within easy reach to an approximate 74150 population.”

Teaching Activity

Pediatric department conducts various clinical activities, journal clubs, CMEs, Undergraduate and Postgraduate (MD Pediatrics) training programs, workshops, conferences. Our students and staff actively participate in research projects, publications, conferences and paper & poster presentations. We conduct National programs like Pulse Polio Program, AFP surveillance program and celebrate National Immunization week, World Breastfeeding week, ORS week, World Down Syndrome day and World Thalassemia day by giving educational talks to the patient population and hence increasing awareness. Extra curricular activities like Undergraduate and Postgraduate IAP quizzes giving encouragement and opportunities to all students for participation.

Hospital Services

OPD services are provided in the morning 9:00 am to 4:00 pm everyday out of which two days – Wednesday and Friday are dedicated to Immunization as per NIP Programs

Our NICU is most advanced 20 Bed unit on 5th floor, we

  • Diagnose and treat sick newborns with infection and breathing problems.
  • Care of premature and low birth weight babies.
  • Stabilize newborns with life threatening conditions.
  • Coordinate infant care with surgical and other complex needs.

The PICU is 8 bedded multidisciplinary state of artunit , located on 5th floor, we provide

  • Emergency care to critically ill patients.
  • Management of Pediatric life threatening conditions.
  • Perform life saving and diagnostic procedures.

The PICU is equipped with advanced technology and provides personalized care for infants and children. The PICU team of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff work towards speedy recovery with improved survival rates.
