Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), also known as Physiatry, is a medical speciality that involves restoring function for a person who has been disabled as a result of disease, disorder or injury.

The PM&R department provides integrated multidisciplinary care aimed at rehabilitation of a Person with Disability (Divyangjan) back to his/her highest level of functioning, independence and quality of life.

Process of rehabilitation involves identification of problem areas for patients followed by multidisciplinary goal-oriented efforts in the form of pharmacotherapy, intervention like surgery, botulinum toxin injections, pain management procedures along with physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, prosthetic and orthotic devices, socio- vocational strategies etc.

Teaching Activities

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department is involved in orienting Undergraduate students (MBBS Course) with various aspects of disability and teaching them rehabilitation aspects of common health problems like Stroke, Traumatic brain injury, Spinal cord Injury, Cerebral palsy etc. The teaching learning methods used are theory lectures, and demonstrations.

Hospital Services

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department provides IPD and OPD basis multidisciplinary rehabilitation services to the patients.
