  • Abstract

Aim and Objective : To study the socio-demo graphic profile and the reasons for non- compliance of treatment in patient suffering from psychiatric illness. Material and Method : Study conducted in psychiatric OPD of a general teaching hospital. 100 consecutive non-compliant patients in age group between 18 to 60 years were inculded. These patient had missed their medicine and symptoms had worsened. Socio demographic profile and reasons for non compliance were noted using of semi structured proforma. Result : Improvment in patients illness is the common reasons of stopping medicines (36%) followed by the distance of commuting (23%) and the side effects of medication (20%). 40% of non compliant patients suffered from schizophrenia. Conculsion: Several factors are related to non compliance inculding awareness - related, illness related, treatment related and practical consideration related. psychoeducation may be partly help full.
