  • Abstract

Hemoglobinopathies arc the most common genetic disorder and constitute an increasing global burden. Incidence is highest in Middle East and Indian subcontinent as per WHO. Hemoglobinopathies can be screened using a single. highly excellent me1hod with the use of High-Performance Liquid Chromatography. AIM: The present study was carried out to assess spectrum of hemoglobinopathies using HPLC method in our hospital. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospective study from July 2019 to August 202 1 was done which included total 610 cases,. CBC parameters and peripheral smears were compared with the chromatographs in all patients. RESULTS: Our study shows prevalence of~ thalassemia trait in females in the age group of 2 I to 40 years. One of the cases showed compound heterozygous for HbS and thalassemia. CONCLUSIONS: HPLC is rapid accurate and useful method for diagnosing hemoglobinopathies in developing countries like India where resources are limited.
