  • Abstract

Aim and Objective : To determine the prevalance of anxiety and depression in patients attending general hospital. To study the demographics data. To study the distribution of the patients suffering from anxiety and depression to various speciality out patients department and variations in presenting symptons, if any. Conclusion :A survey conducted in a general hospital with sample size of 230 patients attending in a single day, using HADS scale, shows that almost 25% of the people attending the general hospital setting were suffering from anxiety and /or depression and 48% of those suffering, have both the symptoms, 34/5 have anexity and 17% have depression.Around 57% were in the age group of 31-50 years, which is a productive age group, suffered the most, followed by the people less than 30 years of age i. e., around 31%. Material : Survey was conducted in a general hospital setting. Hospital anxiety and depression scale was used.
